This is my card:
The name of this technique is Kintsugi. It's a Japanese art form which means "golden journey" - finding beauty in the broken. The Japanese take a broken piece of ceramic or pottery and mend it with gold, thus creating something beautiful out of something broken. Here I tore my background patterned paper, applied Versamark and then gold embossing powder to the torn pieces. I did 4-5 layers to really make the gold dimensional.
The Ingredients:
Recollections Rose Card Stock
TH Gold Foil Card Stock
Crafters Companion Floral Elegance Patterned Paper
SU Dragonfly Dreams Die
SU Layered Circles Die
Just Rite Handwritten Sympathy Sentiments Stamp
GKD Gold Embossing Powder

ReplyDeleteOh my stars Judy, this is stunning! I've heard of that technique in pottery but never seen it done on a card. I absolutely love it! The ethereal pattern of the paper is just perfect for this technique. The sparkly dragonfly is so pretty on this. Beautifully done, my friend!
ReplyDeleteWow, this is spectacular Judy! The soft colors with the gold veining looks amazing. What an awesome technique. Love that gorgeous dragonfly sitting on the layers of beautiful pp. Just fabulous!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous looking background with the torn edges trimmed with gold!
ReplyDeleteYou transferred that great technique to paper beautifully, Judy. The paper looks like it could be a Japanese vase. I love the colors and shine on the dragonfly.

Oh wow, what a beautiful background, so creative and a technique I think you started a bunch of us having to give it a try, I know I want to. Such perfect papers for adding your gold to also, I was wondering how you did it, you always have the most fun techniques!!
ReplyDeleteI actually love the story and history behind your card. I said to myself only my friend Judy. Thank you my friend for finding the beauty in something broken and putting it on a card. When you send this card out you must make a little note about the technique It's priceless
ReplyDeleteOh, how I adore what you've done here, translating the Japanese pottery technique to paper. One often sees patterned paper or technique, but not so often the two of them melded like this. All the more to love! It's sweet and elegant at once and, oh, so lovely!
ReplyDeleteJust love the look of this. What a beautiful image and card!
