Double D - Derby Hat

Dear Ones~
Happy May Day. It's been a long time coming this year. We thought it would NEVER turn to spring, but here we are.

This time over at Double D we are inspired by Kentucky Derby Hats. HOW FUUUN!!! Here is the Mood Board, so much gorgeousness!!!

And here's what I came up with:
At first I was stumped as I don't have anything that has to do with hats. And although we don't NEED to make a hat, I really wanted to. And I was inspired by the beautiful colors on the Mood Board. So I searched Pinterest and found this image:
I'm sorry I don't know the artist. I neglected to make note of it, I looked at so many. Anyway, I just printed this out and cut apart the pieces. Then I traced them onto the card stock I wanted to use and voilé, I had myself a pretty hat. I just added some patterned papers, some embellies, and I was good to go. I ran the top of the hat through my Swiss Dot Embossing Folder for dimension and I also sponged the edges as well. Flowers are punched and sponged.

Here is a close up....isn't it just so stinkin' CUTE???

Here are the Ingredients:
GKD White Card
GKD Ocean Mist Card
GKD Passionate Pink Card
SU Tufted Embossing Folder
SU Stitched Labels Framelits
SU Stitched All Around Stamp
Stash Punches and Ribbon
I invite you to head on over to the  Double D Challenge Blog and check out what all the other designers have done. And if you play along you could win this fabulous stamp set:
So that's it for me, thanks for stopping by. I adore your comments, they always make me smile. And don't forget to stop over at Double D, there is always so much inspiration over there.

  1. I am loving your hat, so creative and beautiful. I love the touch of flowered paper you added and the pretty die cut. The sentiment is perfect and a little sassy. Such a fun and stinkin' cute card.

  2. Wow your card is absolutely gorgeous and so very creative (I am stashing away that idea for later~so clever!) and here I was waiting to see what stamp you used as it is so beautiful!

  3. Voile indeed! I thought it was a fabulous die! Love the colors you chose, I did too lol I love all of your pretty accents you added to it too, the floral band and gorgeous ribbon and all of those beautiful blossoms! And that sentiment is just as fabulous as your wonderful card and YOU! xo~

  4. Wow, this is stunning, Judy! Love your very creative hat! It all comes together and makes for an elegant and lovely image. Love!

  5. STUNNING! WOW I would have never thought to do what you did but it came together beautifully! In fact, I love YOUR hat more than the original base hat. How clever to use the tulle ... just GORGEOUS my friend ... I LOVE IT!!!

  6. Oh, Darling you made a fabulous card. How clever to find a hat and use it for a pattern. The little strip of pp makes a great backdrop for the hat and the sentiment is perfect.

  7. Fabulous Darling!! Your card is GORGEOUS!! Very creative way to use the digital image. I use a lot of digital images but never thought to do what you did. Thanks for the idea.

  8. Derby Day is all about the hats! You are so very clever and I love the hat that you created. Who cares about the horses, when you have a hat like this one. The design of putting the hat on a piece of design paper that duplicates the band on the hat is too sweet and I love the texture on the background and the hat. The crowning touch is the bow! You are so elegant and classy with this one.

  9. Awww.... How lovely!! Great use of that image to make your own hat, love the embossing and the bow with flowers!!! Great design for your card!

  10. Save that template, Judy. The hat is so cute I can see you using it again and again.

  11. Beautiful card and colors, hugs, Lori m
